Ignite the Magic by Donna Grant

Wow! Some answers, more questions. This prequel to the Dark Kings, Dark Warriors series left me reeling. When you have to spend a few days processing a book in order to write about it, you have something special.
This is the story of Lennox, a Dragon King, and King of Dragon Kings. It takes place eons before the current timeline, but ties very importantly into the story of Melisse, a Dragon Queen who has yet to have her story told. He discovers a being on his world (Earth) who does not belong. He is beautiful and intriguing and he suddenly finds himself changing form so he can communicate with her. Ailis is a fae, in particular a Dark Fae, but she doesn’t feel as though she belongs with her people or anywhere on her realm. Her restlessness and adventurous nature cause her to find her way to a new realm and discover her destiny.
The friendship and love they develop despite their differences, and the fact that his people cannot discover that she is on their world, is all-encompassing. Can they overcome their differences and challenges to be together?
I will admit to a great deal of trepidation and mixed feelings as I began this book. That’s sometimes the problem with prequels. We know , or THINK we know what will happen in the future. Eventually, I allowed myself to sink into the story, and enjoy the love, friendships, and descriptive writing that is Grant’s wheelhouse. I’m so happy that I did.
This story can be read as a stand alone, but be warned. You’ll want to binge the series and their spinoffs, and you’ll be happy that you did.
I will anxiously await the next book which will delve way into the future to finally tell the story of two great characters who have been waiting a long time for their story to be told. Anyone have a time machine handy?

Winter at Stonefire

Like visiting with family that you actually love. This novella made me smile and warmed my heart so much!

If you’re a fan of Jessie Donovan’s Dragon shifters series, this is a MUST READ.  Even if you’re not, this is such a sweet and poignant story that if you love shifter (especially dragon shifter) stories, this will make you smile, and then binge read all of the previous stories in the series.  Lucky you, there are many.

For the fans, this is a follow up novella regarding the safety of the half dragon-shifter children that are in orphanages that we recently discovered did not put the safety and well-being of their charges as paramount.  It caught us up on many couples and families that fans of the Dragon Shifter series will love to check in with, especially Jane and Kai and Nikki and Rafe.  As an adoptive mom and a woman who has dealt with infertility, I found this story especially relatable despite the paranormal elements.  (But give me a Dragon Shifter partner any day!)   I love that it brings together many of the clans from previous stories, and may inspire you to do a reread before the next book, which is the story of Kaylee MacDonald (sister of Gina MacDonald) and a dragon shifter from another clan who have previously visited.  Hoping the time goes quickly until that release.  Thanks, Jessie,  for bringing a smile to this reader’s face.

My First Post!

Before I post my first review, allow me to introduce myself. I’m an educator who has been obsessed with romance novels since I snuck into a bag at my grandmother’s house and read a bunch of her Harlequin Romances at age thirteen.

Reading is my escape and my greatest pleasure and in my capacity as a school librarian, I encourage my students to find books, authors and genres that make them fall into a book as well.

I’ll share tidbits about my reading habits and history with subsequent reviews, and I’m new to the whole blog process, so bare with me. Next post, I’ll share which character/book started me thinking about writing my own blog about reading.

Silver Chimera by Zoe Chant

I have said it before, but it bares repeating; Zoe(s) Chant create worlds that I wish I l could live in. Silver Chimera was the first of the Silver Shifters books that I had read. Somehow, I missed the previous books. I never felt lost as she gives plenty of background information on the other characters and events. Both the hero (Alejo) and heroine (Wendy) were relatable and warm characters. I loved how they blended their families and how patient and supportive Alejo was in coaxing an understandably reluctant Wendy into friendship and then more. The slow-burn was not agonizing as some are because of the way the both of them relate to their children and the team they became almost immediately.
I especially loved that the characters are both over fifty and how Wendy slowly overcame her self-worth issues with the support of the very lovable Alejo. (Relatable much?!) This was a sweet and heartwarming story, and I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing that Wendy’s ex has an anvil fall on his rotten head! Besides the very sweet love story, we have suspense from some bad guys, with appearances from some of the characters from the previous series (which I binged immediately after finishing Silver Chimera!).
I very much hope that we’ll see more in this series, and learn more about the mysteries in the garden as well as some of the other characters we were introduced to.
