Shadow Magic

Sisters of Magic Trilogy (re-release)

by Donna Grant

SHADOW MAGIC is the first story in Donna Grant’s  SISTERS OF MAGIC trilogy.  It’s a  historical, paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is the story of  Serena,is a bana-bhuidseach (a witch) with a centuries old curse which basically precludes her from ever having a HEA,  , and Lord Drogan of Wolfglynn, who is a knight with a haunted past that is catching up to him.  This story takes place in the 12th century, and has some historical references to King Henry and life and danger at court.

I read this book years ago, before I was a fan of Donna Grant and before she wrote her Highlander, Warriors and Dragon Kings stories.  I was just beginning my paranormal romance journey, and this series was a major factor in my falling in love with the genre.  I have enjoyed my reread with the lens of having read hundreds of paranormal romances since then, and am looking forward to rereading the other two books of this trilogy.  Enough time has gone by that I don’t even remember the details of the great evil that stalks our heroes and heroines, but nobody writes a nasty villain like Grant so I know I won’t be disappointed by the final battle of good versus evil.

Although this is one of Grant’s early writings, several things remain the same. The world–building, characters, and spice are top notch.  Great for a reread or a new beginning for anyone who hasn’t read Donna Grant before.
